Introduction

FlexiChart ™ is a tool developed by LA Solutions. FlexiChart is a plug-in MDL application for MicroStation®, produced by Bentley Systems. FlexiChart's primary function is to render a set of tabular data as a chart or graph in a MicroStation DGN model …

FlexiChart works with MicroStation V8i. It uses features of MicroStation including element transparency and element priority (Z-ordering) that are not available in earlier versions of MicroStation.

MicroStation users frequently ask for features that we have implemented in FlexiChart. These include …

FlexiChart lets you do all the above and more. It gives you fine control over chart symbology, colour, transparency, Z-ordering, and text styles. It provides numeric, currency, and date formatting similar to Excel and other Microsoft office tools.

Data Sources

FlexiChart interprets an XML file. The XML file contains instructions for FlexiChart that tell it what the chart should look like, as well as the data used to create the chart.

XML can be created from a wide range of applications or databases. For example, both SQL Server™ and Oracle™ have extensive support for XML. FlexiTable™ can create a FlexiChart file from your MicroStation DGN data or by opening an Excel™ file.

Plotting & Printing

FlexiChart creates MicroStation graphics. As a result, your charts plot using whatever Windows and Bentley plot drivers are available to your computer. Here's an example PDF print.

Configuration

FlexiChart is designed to be configurable. In a networked office, it's convenient to be able to use a server computer to store command data and settings files.

FlexiChart uses several configuration variables to discover its settings files and data files. You can read more about FlexiChart™'s configuration variables in the FlexiChart help document.
