Introduction
HyperLink is the solution to a common question posed by MicroStation users: "How do I link from a hot-spot in my DGN model to another DGN model or even external file data?". For example, you may want to link a graphic element to an external spreadsheet or text document.
Although HyperLink provides valuable functionality for older versions of MicroStation, it is largely superseded by new features in MicroStation V8i. MicroStation's Project Explorer and Engineering Links supply similar or better functionality to HyperLink.
HyperLink
HyperLink is a linking & navigation tool for MicroStation. It was first created for MicroStation 95 and continues to be available for the V8 generation. It lets you tag an object in a MicroStation DGN model with a link to another object. That other object might be another DGN model, a text document, and image, or movie. Anything, in fact, that has a unique file type and a Windows application that can display that file type.
Links
HyperLink tags a graphic element with a visible name and hidden information about the target of that link. This function is similar to MicroStation's Engineering Links feature.
Navigation
HyperLink provides navigation buttons. Navigation buttons let you jump from a hot-spot to its target. The nature of the target determines what happens as you navigate …
- If the hot-spot links to a DGN model, HyperLink opens the model and focusses a view on the target
- If the hot-spot references a file type not handled by MicroStation, HyperLink opens the file using the appropriate application for that file type
This functionality is similar to MicroStation V8i's Project Explorer.
History
HyperLink maintains a history file of your tour through its hot-spots. You can jump to any point in the history of your tour. You can save the history to a file. You can replay a tour from an existing history file.
The ability to record and replay a tour provides an way to help other users navigate a set of files. Particularly if the other users are not proficient with MicroStation or PowerDraft, it enables them to find points of interest.

HyperLink is available for Bentley Systems flagship CAD platform MicroStation and PowerDraft.
HyperLink Reports
